I Should Be Camping!

I Should Be Camping!

Right now I should be sitting at the lake in a lawn chair, drinking a cold beer (or Diet Dr. Pepper, depending on mood), and eating a juicy cheeseburger fresh off the grill. I should be making appropriate plans for a big campfire, complete with a few gooey S’mores. My feet should be dirty, and I should be wearing my traditional black “lake dress”.  Sigh…I’m not.

Although the weather has been beautiful for the past couple of days, we have been inundated with rain recently. LOTS and LOTS of rain. We’ve had so much rain that our lake is flooded. The campsite we had reserved for this weekend is under water. My sister and I went out there and checked it out last weekend, and saw this…

I was hoping there was still a chance for this weekend, and if not I was fully prepared to do this….

Well, Not Really..

We received a call from the state park office this week that our reservation had been cancelled due to flooding, but a credit  was issued so that we could reschedule. My sister and I went out to the park offices and rescheduled for the end of the month, as they told us it should be fine by then. We were told that part of the problem is the debris and wet ground after the flood waters recede, so we will wait patiently.

Come hell  or high water, we will be there on June 25th and 26th (well..I guess high water COULD stop us, ha)!!

Front Porch Blogging

So, instead of camping, I’m sitting on my front porch talking to my dog and writing a blog. Hey! I’m a poet and didn’t know it!  🙂

I just looked out in the yard and our cat Sophie looks amazingly relaxed right now. Earlier today she got in one of those sticker bushes and I spent half an hour picking the ones I could out of her long fur. Ahh, to have the rough life of a cat!

A Nice, Drooly Nap

Even though I didn’t get to camp, I’ve enjoyed a nice day.  My husband and I went out to lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant, then I came home and took a nice little nap.

This wasn’t just an average nap. This was the kind of nap where a person is SO tired that they fall asleep immediately and wake up in a puddle of drool. OH YEAH!  It was one of THOSE naps! Fantastic.

When I woke up,my husband had picked up the house and had even started the dishwasher (breakfast dishes that I fully intended on doing after the nap).

To top it off, I had the sweetest dream. I was young again, and at my aunt Margie’s house. I adored my aunt Margie, and I used to spend a lot of time at her house. In this dream, my mom and aunt Margie were still living and we were all sitting in her living room laughing hysterically at something that aunt Margie said. She was always so funny..dang I miss her!

This brings back a random memory.. I need to ask my cousins  if this is real or imagined. I remember sitting in her bathroom on the tub, watching one of my cousins do her makeup. What I remember, though, is that the bathroom was narrow and there was hardly any space between the tub and the vanity/counter. Was it really like that? Hopefully someone can answer that question for me.

Baby Mateo

Lastly, today was special because I got to hold my new grandson Mateo. He was born on Wednesday, and is such a sweetheart. Even though he is my 9th grandbaby, each one is sweet and special in their own way. Welcome to the world, Mateo!

Remember that even though things may not always go as we had planned, we can still enjoy the little things in life.  Have a nice tomorrow!
