OOPS! Halloween Food FAILS!

OOPS! Halloween Food FAILS!

What a fun month we had, trying out recipes for spooky Halloween fun.  Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for the sake of laughter), not EVERYTHING turned out quite as planned!  Some of our attempts had to be re-made, and some…well…all I can say is that I hope you enjoy our OOPS!  Halloween Food FAILS!

1. Spooky Witches Finger Cookies

Jan decided to make these neat witches finger cookies for our October feature.  She and my cousin Rosella worked together to make cookies that were SUPPOSED to look like this:

They followed the recipe instructions, and the cookies were looking good when they placed them in the oven…

After baking for the correct amount of minutes on the correct oven temperature, they were just a bit shocked at the finished product.

The finished product!

I think the witch gained a bit of weight!  I did hear that they were still tasty, though!!  🙂

2. Boo Brownies

I made the recipe for cute little ghostly brownies:  https://cookiesandcursewords.com/boo-brownies

Boo brownies are made by placing a marshmallow on COOLED brownies, spooning melted white frosting over the top, letting this COOL again, and then using black decorator gel to draw the ghostly eyes and mouth.  The finished product looks like this:

The above picture was not my first attempt at a Boo Brownie.  Heck, it wasn’t even my second attempt.  My first mistake was pouring the frosting over the brownie when it was still hot from the oven.  I know better than this.  I never frost a cake when it is hot, but I think I was just so excited to see this cute little ghost!  I also tried to put the face on before the frosting cooled and wasn’t so runny.  Here is a picture of my first pitiful Boo Brownie: 🙂

OOPS!
3. Bloody Fingers

I was actually very proud of my finished result of Bloody Finger hot dogs, both times I made them.  You can find the instructions here: https://cookiesandcursewords.com/creepy-Halloween-foods-bloody-fingers-and-mummy-dogs

Both times, the “fingers” looked very realistic and the ketchup added to the bloody effect.  You may have seen this post with the finished product…

Bloody finger hot dogs

The picture above was my second attempt at the bloody finger hot dogs.  I wouldn’t have had to make them again, except for the fact that I inadvertently placed them a bit “oddly” for my first picture.  Here it is, I’ll just leave it up to you to figure out what is wrong with it!

Hmm…

In my defense, the middle finger was a bun sized beef hot dog and the others were the cheap smaller hot dogs.  I snapped a picture, and fed them to my hungry sister-in-law.  Later, I went back and looked at the only picture that I took and realized this wasn’t really appropriate!  🙂 🙂  Hey.. I never claimed to be a food photographer!

Okay, this next one wasn’t a Halloween food fail…but I have to include it!

A few years ago, my sister decided to make a recipe she saw for cute little deviled egg chicks on Easter.  They were supposed to look something like this…

Photo from Good Housekeeping

She was very excited about making these,  and if I recall correctly, she had a friend helping her out (and possibly a bit of wine).  When she got to my house for Easter dinner and opened up her container, this is what greeted us:

Wait for it…….
It’s worth it….

Jan’s Easter chicks

Well they actually WERE a little scary, so I guess they fit right in here! Ha Ha Ha!!  Those were the best deviled eggs EVER!

Have a safe and Happy Halloween, and have fun making those spooky treats!
