Sit, Sip, and Stare

Sit, Sip, and Stare

I’d like to begin by giving credit where credit is due for the title of this post. I recently started exploring TikTok, and found a delightful woman that lives, collects, and dresses in a vintage style. As I have mentioned in my last blog post, my anxiety has been an issue for the past several months. This woman has the most soothing voice and mannerisms, and I find myself seeking out her TikTok videos every day. She begins her day every morning by taking time to sit somewhere comfy, sip on some sort of beverage, and stare for a while to focus and relax. You can find her on TikTok @shifferdiane .

I cannot even explain how much peace this simple routine for a few minutes at the beginning of my day has brought me. Each morning I wake up, make myself  a cup of ginger tea (good for digestion), and find a comfortable place to sit. If I’m inside, I leave my phone out of reach and assure that the television is off. Now that I have a brand new porch, I intend to sit outside. Once comfortable, I sip on my tea and sit quietly for a few minutes. If those anxious thoughts start popping up or I start ruminating on my latest worry, I quickly brush those aside and concentrate on simple things that I can see and hear. I take the time to savor the slightly spicy warmth of the ginger tea. It’s a wonderful way to start the day.

My older sister used to tell me she needed a while to just sit around before getting ready for the day, and I never understood it. Now I do. No longer do I jump out of bed and rush around to get dressed, etc.  Instead, I take shifferdiane’s suggestion to sit, sip, and stare.  I highly suggest that you try it as well (and check out her TikTok)!
