Isn’t the sense of smell a wonderful thing?  Long forgotten memories can be brought back to the surface with one whiff of a particular smell.  Smells can remind us of the good times, and some bad times as well.  Today, I will concentrate on the good…and I’m going to need your comments to add to this list!  Just to let you know, this post will contain a few affiliate links.  This means that if you click on a link and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission at no extra charge to you.   Believe me, you may be tempted as you read through my list of the Twenty Best Smells Ever (in my opinion)! 🙂

1. FRESH LILACS:  Growing up, we had two lilac bushes in our yard.  Every time I smell lilacs, I am reminded of the days when we used to cut them from our bushes to fill May baskets before “knocking and running” on the doors of friends and family.  Unfortunately, this is a tradition that has faded with time.  I found a candle that comes very close to capturing that fresh lilac scent, and you can find it here:  Bath & Body Works Candle 3 Wick 14.5 Ounce 2017 Fresh Cut Lilacs

2. FRESHLY BAKED BREAD:  What is it about the smell of bread, fresh out of the oven?  Not only does this smell make my mouth water, it somehow brings a sense of comfort to me. Maybe this is why I love to step foot into a Subway restaurant as often as possible!

3. PUMPKIN PIE :  I love the smell of pumpkin pie in the oven.  Actually, I love the smell of pumpkin.  Pumpkin=Fall=cool, crisp days=campfires..and speaking of this…

4.  CAMPFIRES:  Some may turn their noses up to the smell of a campfire, but not this girl!  To me, a campfire represents relaxation.  Sitting around the burning embers, roasting marshmallows,  feeling the warmth while listening to the crackling sounds of the wood burning- this is the ultimate relaxation.  A few years ago I discovered wood wick candles that actually crackle as they burn.  If you close your eyes while burning your Woodwick Candle Fireside Medium Jar , it is easy to imagine that you are sitting in front of a nice, warm campfire.

5.  LOVE’S BABY SOFT PERFUME:  Take me back to junior high school, right now!  Love’s Baby Soft is a scent that I will never forget in my lifetime. It was the first perfume that I ever used, perfect for the pre-teen girl.  This light scent brings back so many good memories that I actually ordered a bottle a few years ago to show my girls. Get yourself some !

6. MULLED CIDER WAX CUBES:  This is the absolute best smelling wax cube around.  I used to stock up on these because they were only available in the fall, but I recently discovered that I can order them on Amazon! Scented Wax Cubes Mulled Cider Set of 2 are heavenly!

7. FRESH CUT GRASS:  Who doesn’t appreciate that smell of fresh cut grass in the early spring?  Well, I suppose if you have allergies you may not appreciate it quite so much. 🙂

8. COAST BAR SOAP:  I can still remember those commercials that depict a very sleepy person stepping into the shower, but when they smell the Coast soap they immediately smile and wake up, or “open their eyes.”  Funny thing is, the smell IS so good that it really DOES open my eyes!

9. THE VERY FIRST FURNACE LIGHTING OF THE SEASON:  I know this one sounds odd.  Is it just me that loves the smell that permeates through the vents when the furnace is first lit in the fall?  It brings a cozy, warm feeling that all is right with the world for a moment. 🙂

10.  ISLAND GARDENIA PERFUME:  I first discovered this smell when I was around nineteen years old, working at good ole’ Wal-Mart.  At the end of each evening, we would have to straighten (face) the shelves before we could go home.  My favorite section to straighten was the health and beauty section, and I would sneak a few smells of the tester perfumes while I worked.  Island Gardenia was one of the best smelling perfumes we had.  The subtle smell of gardenia reminds me of a summer evening.  Yes, it is still around  and you can order Jovan Island Gardenia FOR WOMEN by Jovan – 1.5 oz EDC Spray on Amazon!

11.  PUPPY BREATH:  Need I say more?  Puppy breath is the best.

12.  BACON:  Does this one need an explanation? 🙂

13.   AUSSIE BRAND SHAMPOO:  I can’t pinpoint the exact smell of this shampoo, but it is fantastic!  Look for the purple bottle, or order some here:  Aussie Moist Shampoo and Conditioner, 13.5 Ounce Each, Plus 3 Minute Miracle Moist, 8 Ounce

14. SCENTSY BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE WAX CUBES:  This stuff smells like you just baked a blueberry cheesecake, blueberry muffins, or ANYTHING blueberry!   Scentsy Blueberry Cheesecake Wickless Candle Tart Warmer Wax, 3.2 fl oz

15. NEW CARPET:  There is just something about the smell of new carpet, nothing compares to it.

16.  CHARLIE PERFUME:  “Theres a fragrance that’s here today and they call it….Charlie!”  I admit, this is probably only a favorite of mine for personal reasons.  My mother wore Charlie for all special occasions.  I truthfully didn’t care for it much back then, but I would give anything to smell that fragrance on my mom again.  I had to look it up to see if it is still available, and it is!

17. FRESHLY BREWED COFFEE:  Most of us love the smell of freshly brewed coffee in the morning, even if we don’t drink it…right?  Is it the best part of waking up?  Maybe!

18.  SWIMMING POOLS:  The chlorine smell reminds me of the many hot summer days spent at the city pool during my childhood…and along that same note…

19. SUNTAN LOTION/SUNSCREEN:   This is also another smell that reminds me of those carefree childhood summer days.  Who can forget that Coppertone advertisement with the little girl getting her bathing suit tugged on by her puppy dog?  I love sunscreen lotions for the smell, although I do feel the sprays are more effective in preventing sunburn.

20.  FRESHLY LAUNDERED SHEETS:  Last, but most definitely not least, freshly washed bedsheets have to be one of the most incredible smells ever!

BONUS SMELL:  BABY MAGIC BABY LOTION/BATH .  One of my favorite smells of all time, how could I forget this one? 🙂

This is my personal list, but I would love to hear what your favorite smells are and why!  List them in the comments!
