I See You

I See You

Update April 2020

I originally wrote this post in August 2018, but during this COVID-19 crisis I feel a post like this is more important than ever. So many people are going through a rough time right now, and I think it’s important to make sure that everybody out there knows they are not alone.

To the “essential”workers, the families affected by the virus in any way, those that have lost loved ones but cannot give them a proper funeral due to restrictions, those that cannot visit loved ones, those that have lost jobs, businesses..the list goes on and on..I see you.

I had planned to write a humorous, upbeat post tonight.  Things don’t always go as planned.  My heart is telling me to write this instead.  It may not get many page views. People may even click away from it because it’s a boring post..but for some reason I feel compelled to let you know that I See You.

  • For those that are feeling down, lonely, or hopeless…I see you.
  • For those that are hurting, either physically or emotionally…I see you.
  • For those that have recently lost someone close to you and you can’t figure out how to go about life without them…I see you.
  • For those mothers that lay awake at night worrying about their children (whether young or adult)…I see you.
  • For those that have said or done something that they regret, but unsure how to rectify the situation…I see you.
  • For those missing a loved one that lives far away…I see you.
  • For those trying desperately to forgive someone who has done them wrong…I see you.
  • For those not living their authentic life for one reason or another…I see you.
  • For those struggling with any type of addiction…I see you.
  • For those battling cancer or any kind of life-altering disease…I see you.
  • For those that give and give, but never seem to get anything in return…I see you.
  • For those suffering at the hands of another…I see you.
  • For those facing any big life decision…I see you.

I could continue with this list, but I’ll stop at this point.  Every one of these are situations that I saw as I scrolled through posts on my Facebook feed over the past few days.  So many are hurting, worried,  or fighting some sort of personal battle.  Others are celebrating milestones such as birthdays or anniversaries.  All of these are just people that want to be validated, to be seen.

This morning I was telling a co-worker that I often read a post and genuinely care, but I forget to hit “like”.  It doesn’t take a lot of time to give someone the validation that they deserve. I see many people asking for prayers with many comments below that say “praying” or using the little praying hands emoji..but how many of those people actually do say a prayer?  I hope everybody does.  When I see someone asking for prayers, I make a conscious effort to stop what I’m doing and say a 5-10 second prayer for that specific person and their situation.  It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s important.  If you aren’t a praying person, take a few seconds to send good thoughts their way.  It means a whole lot to truthfully be able to say “I See You.”  🙂
