Niagara Falls on a budget

Niagara Falls on a budget

One winter evening, my husband and I were watching a movie.  It must not have been a great movie, because I can remember neither the name of the movie or the plot.  One of the characters in this movie took a trip to Niagara

Parking Wars

Parking Wars

Today’s post was not planned.  Something happened today that reminded me a bit of Kathy Bates and her parking lot scene in Fried Green Tomatoes. I assume that most of you have seen this movie, but if you haven’t, you should!

I hate grocery shopping. I especially hate grocery shopping in the summer. I am a hot, sweaty, grouchy mess by the time I get to the checkout line.

Today, after loading all of my groceries into my car, my back was killing me.  I guess that’s what a case of bottled water, four 12 packs of Diet Dr Pepper, and two 8 packs of Powerade Zero will do to an out of shape person like me. However, the parking lot was unusually empty and I was pleased to see that nobody was parked in the spot directly in front of me.  That meant I could pull straight through without having to back out. Yay! I’m telling ya, little things make me happy. 😊

My happiness was short lived. Continue reading Parking Wars

Not everybody loves the 4th of July.  Many people and pets, especially dogs, have a difficult time during this season.  Statistics show that more pets are lost on the 4th of July than any other time throughout the year.

Here are a few tips for keeping your pets safe during the holiday..

  1. Make sure that your pet has on a collar with ID tags.  If your pet does get spooked and take off, this will help get them back home.  Microchip pets if possible.
  2. Take them outside to walk and “do their business” earlier in the day, when it is quieter.
  3. Many recommend an anxiety vest, or Thundershirt to calm dogs during storms or the 4th of July.  This shirt “swaddles” the dog and the pressure can help them feel more secure.  My sister’s dog Reba loves her Thundershirt
  4. Ask your vet about possibly prescribing a medication for anxiety to use in these specific times.
  5. Keep your pets in a safe, dark room.  Play soothing music or turn on the television and shut the blinds.  If your dog is crate trained, some seem to feel more at ease in their crate with a blanket over the top.
  6. Many people insist that their pets have experienced great anxiety relief from calming bites containing hemp oil.  Another option is hemp prime oil that can be placed on their food.

UPDATE:  Last year my sister purchased the calming bites for her dog Reba. She said they were fantastic, and Reba didn’t even have to take “doggie Valium” since she had the calming bites!

Whatever option you choose, be sure and give your pets extra love and reassurance during this hectic holiday.  Have a great 4th!

Living in a small town, it seems like every time I decide to make a quick trip to the store when I look my very worst, I see someone I know.  After a long weekend at the lake, we came home to an empty fridge

I want French fries! 😊

I want French fries! 😊

Luke and I did pretty well eating low carb this week, but my husband decided he did not want to join us (which makes it harder).     Without detailing every meal, I will tell you that we ate no-bun cheeseburgers, grilled chicken salads, chicken/brocolli stir fry, taco crunch (without the crunch of tortilla chips), and a whole bunch of eggs!  We made breakfast burritos using low carb tortillas. So good! Continue reading I want French fries! 😊
