Grandma Hazel’s “Carmel Corn”

Grandma Hazel’s “Carmel Corn”

This is the BEST caramel popcorn you will ever have, and I’m not exaggerating!  My grandma made this every year and brought a tin full of the popcorn for each family to take home.  I love caramel corn, but truly none of it tastes quite

I Asked Ten People How They Cope With Their Anxiety, and Here’s What I Found Out…

Anxiety. Where do I begin? I have been planning to write about this subject for the past four months, but I just don’t know where to start. Come to think of it, I’ve had anxiety just thinking about writing this post. What if I say

Peach Dump Cake

Peach Dump Cake

This peach dump cake is about as easy as it gets, but tastes much like a good old fashioned peach cobbler. I usually sprinkle a bit of cinnamon over the peaches before baking, but this is personal preference. Top it with some vanilla ice cream for something really spectacular!

Where Are My Glasses?

Where Are My Glasses?

Losing my mind (and other things) Do you ever misplace things? I notice that I do it more and more as time goes on. Usually it’s just little things that I quickly find once I calm down and stop having a “shit fit” about it.

A Special Treat from Simon

A Special Treat from Simon

My seven year old grandson Simon is full of personality, and he made a special video on his mom’s phone while she was napping after a long day of work yesterday. Although this isn’t typically what I put on the blog..he’s my grandbaby and I

Always Look Forward..

Always Look Forward..

I’ve written before about my wonderful grandma that lived to be almost 106 years old. Ha…I accidentally just typed 206, but I caught the mistake…you would have been REALLY impressed, eh? I remember one time somebody asked grandma what kept her going, and she replied with “I always find something to look forward to in the future”. It was true. I can recall her telling me at various times that she had to live long enough to have her 100th birthday party, or see my college graduation, to see some of the great grandkids get married, or the birth of her first great, great grandchild..then the second…and third! She wanted to see my son that was born on her 84th birthday graduate high school. She wanted to see my parents celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.  She always looked forward to our big family Christmas celebration!  🙂 There were so many things, and all of those things kept her going!

My grandma still looked forward to visits from Santa!

We All Have Rough Days

Let’s be truthful. Life can often be depressing for many of us. Sometimes it’s just hard to focus beyond today, and if today happens to suck..well, that’s all we think about. I know several people going through major struggles right now. My friend and I were just talking about this yesterday. We have both been feeling “blah” recently, but can’t pinpoint an exact reason why. I haven’t even put up all of my Christmas decorations yet (my oldest son threatened to come over and do it himself). This time of year is difficult for many. If you are one of these people, you may be looking forward to the end of this season, and the beginning of spring in a few months. One year I spent my entire winter drawing up plans for my raised bed garden in the spring. Focusing on the future really did help to lift my spirits. Believe it or not, there is always reason to look forward. On days when I feel sad, I think about grandma and I start making plans.

My “Staycation”

This month I’m looking forward to a “staycation” from work. I’m looking forward to Christmas movies, baking cookies, and spending at least one entire day in my pajamas drinking coffee with Bailey’s Irish cream in it! I’m looking forward to evenings with nothing but the light of the Christmas tree. I’m looking forward to a night out with good friends, a night out with my sister (she just doesn’t know about it yet ), seeing at least one movie in the theater, watching the faces of the grandkids opening gifts, and celebrating a new year with my family.

Easier said than done?

I’m not saying it will always work. Some days even I think it’s all a bunch of bull. Some days it’s just easier to wallow. Remember my pity party (a term I got from my late sister Lorna)?

Wallow if you must, but when you are finished..find something to look forward to in your future. Just having something hopeful to cling onto can make a world of difference..and there is ALWAYS something. Maybe it’s a big event coming up, or maybe it’s something as simple as a warm, sunny day.

I’m telling you, my grandma was a very smart lady!

I’m LOOKING FORWARD to hearing about your plans in my comments!

My First Six Months of Blogging: What I’ve Learned

My First Six Months of Blogging: What I’ve Learned

Guess what? It’s the 6 month anniversary of Cookies and Cursewords! I can’t believe it has already been 6 months!  This is a good time to reflect on what I’ve learned during my first six months of blogging. When I first started the blog, I

Oh, No! I’m Falling!

Oh, No! I’m Falling!

I actually had another post written out for tonight. It was a nice post, and you’ll see it in a few days. Certain circumstances have caused me to go in a different direction for tonight. I just have one question. Why the heck do I

Starting Your Own Blog

Starting Your Own Blog

Some people have been asking me about starting a blog. I started mine in June, and I think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. It’s a great outlet for me, very cathartic. Not sure if anyone has noticed, but I’ve taken all ads down for a while because I just want to concentrate on content. Yes, you can make money with a blog. There are several different ways to do this, but in order to monetize a blog you need to be self-hosted. The free blog sites are not self- hosted. You don’t own your platform and this limits you. I didn’t want to pay for self-hosted, but I knew it was the best decision and I got a good deal on it. This weekend Bluehost (who I’m with) is offering a deal of $2.65 per month, which is great (less than what I paid).I’m not sure how much that comes to per year, but you have to pay annually. If anyone is interested in this or any information about starting your own blog, just contact me at cookiesandcursewords@gmail.com and I’d be glad to let you know the steps it takes. I’m putting out a link here for this weekend’s sale. Even if you want to start a blog but not sure how to go about it, this is the starting point. If you happen to click on this link and purchase Bluehost, I will get a small commission.

As I said, it takes work but it’s a fun and fulfilling process!

Holiday Traditions

Holiday Traditions

I have been slacking. I meant to write about holiday traditions earlier this week, but here it is the day after Thanksgiving…and I still haven’t done it. I do have excuses. I have been feeling a bit under the weather, plus getting ready for Thanksgiving,
